DALLAS/FORT WORTH (March 19, 2014) – Artemis Medial Society announced today the selection of Dallas, Texas as the host city of its first annual conference.  The conference will be held at the Westin Galleria Dallas from September 26-28, 2014.

“We are so happy Dallas was chosen to host our first annual conference,” expressed Dr. Myiesha Taylor, President, Artemis Medical Society.  “We are excited to be able to bringing this historic event to our organization’s home city.  We look forward to welcoming our members to Dallas and giving them a wonderful southern hospitality experience.”

Artemis Medical Society helps promote an environment in medicine where women of color from around the world can come together to support and learn from each other across all medical specialties. Since their formation, the nonprofit organization has worked diligently to create a supportive environment by fostering a strong sense of community among its membership. Artemis Medical Society believes women physicians of color are a vital part of an effective physician workforce that is responsive to, and aims to deliver quality healthcare to our increasingly diverse communities. Through mentoring, networking and advocacy, the organization is providing the foundation necessary to create a diverse physician workforce vital to our rapidly changing society.

“Often time our members are the only person of color and/or woman in their medical practices.  This can create a sense of isolation and can lead many to strongly consider leaving their medical careers,” said Dr. Donna Hamilton, Vice President for Communications, Artemis Medical Society.  “Our conference will help address this issue by focusing on mentoring, networking and self-care.  It will acknowledge the fact that we are not only women and physicians, but also human beings who need to be nurtured. We know the wellbeing of our members is critical to providing quality healthcare to the diverse communities we serve.”
